What is SAT?
The SAT is a standardized test conducted by College Board, the SAT® measures Mathematical, Reading and Writing skills of students applying for undergraduate programs abroad. Almost all US Universities require SAT® scores as part of the application, the SAT® scores are also required by some universities across the globe. SAT® is entirely a paper-based Test.
The SAT Consists of
The Reading section
The Writing Section
The Maths Section with calculator allowed
The Math Section with calculator not allowed
The Optional Essay section.
The SAT tests the students on the following:
|80 Minutes, 58 Questions||65 Minutes, 52 Questions||35 Minutes, 44 Questions||50 Minutes,1 Essay|
|Algebra, Problem Solving|
Data Analysis & Advanced Math Concepts
|Understanding Complex Passages & Vocabulary in given context||Grammar, Argument & writing ability||Recommended to attempt the section|
- Mathematics section is scored on a scale of 200-800
- Verbal section is scored on a scale of 200-800
- Essay is scored separately on a scale of 2-8
- SAT® test score ranges from 400-1600 & Essay 2-8 graded separately
- Scores are on a 10-point increment
Most of the SAT sections are reading based, even the essay task requires reading a long passage and critically evaluating it. This poses a unique challenge to most students – breaking away from reading as they do in most academic contexts.
Since most students read to retain information – they read slowly and miss the big ideas of most texts they read. This can be disastrous on the SAT, where reading for gist and overall idea is what’s rewarded.
