Resume vs CV

• Resumes are normally used for non-academic roles, typical length of a resume is 1-2 pages & forms a summary of your profile including experience, projects, education & achievements.
• Applications need a resume.
• Since the recruiters/ profs normally spend less time in reviewing a resume it is important to ensure it is clean, crisp & concise.
• CV is normally used while applying for academic roles, grants, fellowships, or research projects. This is a longer more detailed version of a resume and can go 6-7 pages.
• CV will include detailed information of education, research & professional experience along with synopsis of projects, research work, papers, publications & internships.

Qualities of a Good Resume

• Keep it short – less than 2 pages
• Use powerful adjectives & active sentences
• Highlight achievements, projects & relevant events
• Provide clear details like dates, numbers, class / team size
• Think creatively about how your academic experience can be translated into the necessary skills for a non-academic environment.
• Highlight your strengths.
• Define objective clearly & in sync with the program
• List relevant presentations, publications, and papers, but not all.
